With standard all-wheel drive and a nice-sized cargo area (up to 73.4 cubic feet with the second-row seats folded flat), the 2024 Ford Edge rivals other midsized crossovers for versatility, especially with its 3,500-pound towing capacity. The five-passenger Edge also catches eyes with its modern styling and packs a punch with a pair of strong powertrains to choose between.
Ford has increased the trial subscription length on a couple of services for the new model year. For connected built-in navigation, buyers now receive three years or complimentary service versus one, while the streaming service is now free for a year instead of 30 days.
Ford offers the 2024 Edge in five trim levels: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. The base engine (for the SE, SEL, ST-Line, and Titanium) is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-four that pumps out 250 horsepower and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The ST is upgraded with a 2.7-liter V6 that makes 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque; it’s paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
According to the official fuel economy estimations determined by the EPA, the standard turbocharged EcoBoost powertrain found in the first four Edge trims returns an EPA-estimated rating of 21 mpg on city roads and 28 mpg when driving the open road. With its more potent V6, the ST achieves 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway.
The SE is mostly no-nonsense with its standard equipment list, including cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, two 4.2-inch cluster displays, USB-A and USB-C ports, eight cup holders, two 12-volt power outlets, second-row 60/40 split-fold-flat and reclining bench seat with a fold-down armrest, a body-colored rear spoiler, and 18-inch Sparkle Silver aluminum wheels. Added to the SEL are heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ActiveX upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 4-way power passenger seat, dual-power heated sideview mirrors, and 18-inch split-spoke aluminum wheels in Sparkle Silver.
The ST-Line raises the convenience factor with remote start, a power liftgate, a 110V power outlet, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, LED fog lights, wireless device charging, trim-specific badging, and 20-inch premium gloss-black aluminum wheels. With the Titanium, style and comfort are upgraded with a heated steering wheel, a hands-free foot-activated liftgate, a 10-way power driver’s seat, sport bucket seats, a dual-integrated exhaust with bright tips, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and 19-inch Luster Nickel aluminum wheels. The optional Titanium Elite Package will add 20-inch polished wheels and a semi-autonomous park assist system.
The ST mixes some standard features of the ST-Line and Titanium but has a unique style with leather-trimmed seats containing Miko inserts and City Silver stitching, a gloss-black mesh grille with the ST logo, and 20-inch high-gloss black machined aluminum wheels. Buyers can elect the available ST Performance Brake Package to enhance the ride with 21-inch wheels, upgraded tires, vented brakes all around, and improved cooling systems for the brakes and engine.
All Edge trims include Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technology package, which contains blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, the MyKey System (to set limits for secondary drivers), and the SOS post-crash alert system. Rear parking sensors are added starting with the SEL (they are optional for the SE); the Titanium and SE also get front parking sensors. The SEL and above are eligible to add evasive steering collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control; the two highest trims expand their list of options to include enhanced active park assist system for parallel parking and reverse perpendicular parking, and a 180-degree front camera with a split view.
Every 2024 Edge gets a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen with the SYNC 4A system. Its main features are Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker audio system. The Titanium and ST provide a superior listening experience with a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system with a dozen speakers and a subwoofer.
